Details

Viewed as a symbol of fertility, prosperity, and rebirth, the serpent is revered in many aspects of Hindu culture and throughout many parts of Asia. The Naga, often appearing as humanoid creatures with the lower body of a serpent, or snake, are similarly revered as nature spirits of fertility and prosperity. They are widely considered water spirits, who protect springs, wells, and the treasures they contain, and they are believed to bring rains and storms. This statue beautifully depicts a Naga within the Hindu tradition; sitting coiled as though in the lotus position in prayer, in a serene state often portrayed in representation of the gods and goddesses of the Hindu pantheon. With no detail spared , it has been sculpted of brass and measures approximately 5 1/2" high and 4 1/4" wide.
